Aamir Khan's comments on growing intolerance have provoked mixed responses on Twitter. While several of his industry colleagues have hit out at the actor, many people, including Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, have also come out in support of the actor.Anupam Kher, Paresh Rawal and Ram Gopal Varma are among those criticising the actor for saying that he is "alarmed" by a number of incidents and his wife Kiran Rao even suggested that they should probably leave the country.

The 50-year-old spoke at at an award function on Monday evening where he said, "When I chat with Kiran at home, she says 'Should we move out of India?' That's a disastrous and big statement for Kiran to make. She fears for her child. She fears about what the atmosphere around us will be. She feels scared to open the newspapers every day. That does indicate that there is this sense of growing disquiet, there is growing despondency apart from alarm. You feel why this is happening, you feel low. That sense does exist in me." Kher, who shared screen space with Aamir in Dil, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin among others, was vociferous in his criticism on Twitter. He spoke about his wife Kiran Rao, show Sataymeve Jayate and Incredible India, the India tourism campaign that Aamir was associated with, in a string of tweets lashing out at Khan.
